Pese a que el Schalke se adelantó en el marcador por 2-0, con goles de Choupo-Moting, al minuto 13 y Leroy Sané al 28, Leverkusen encontró el camino para remontar con anotaciones de Brandt, al minuto 53, Bellarabi al 55 y Chicharito, al 59. En total, Hernández acumula 26 goles con la playera del Bayer. Con el triunfo en la ciudad minera, Bayer Leverkusen se mantiene cómodo en la tercera plaza con 54 puntos; Bayern Múnich y Borussia Dortmund lideran con 81 y 74 unidades, respectivamente.
